Your
reserve account is calculated to take care of
your annual claims. However, excessively high
claim years do happen. Perhaps you lose a grant
and need to lay off several people. Our program
includes excess loss insurance to limit your liability
when unexpected events such as this happen. The
point at which this stop loss insurance coverage
applies, the attachment point, is based on your
organization’s individual profile.
Let’s
use one of our members as an example: a small
women’s shelter in Chicago. Their attachment
point is $20,000. Up to $20,000, all claims are
paid from their reserve account. If they have
an unexpectedly high claims year and their claims
exceed $20,000, the excess loss insurance will
take effect. Beyond the $20,000 and up to $80,000,
the excess loss insurance will cover claims, without
any reimbursement necessary from the organization.
Any annual claims exceeding $80,000 are reimbursed
by the program on your behalf in the same fashion
as claims up to the attachment point. The repayment
process of any claims in excess of the deposit
and reserve amounts are reimbursed by the organization
back into the reserve account over a three-year
period.
